PostSubject: Pokemon D/P/Pl Official Chaining Guide   Wed May 13, 2009 5:31 pm

I thought that the people of Nintendopeeps needed a chaining guide to learn how to make it easier to get shiny pokemon Smile. Although chaining does increase the probabilty of getting a shiny pokemon, chaining is not very easy to do at first. Once you learn how, it will become alot easier to do!

What is chaining?

Chaining is when you use your poke' radar to find the same pokemon in a chain, without any other pokemon coming.

What is a Poke' Radar?

A Poke' Radar is an item that you obtain after you beat the pokemon league. It is given to you by Prof. Rowan when you stop by his pokemon research lab in Sandgem Town. This item is what you need to start chaining.

What pokemon should I chain?

This really depends on what you are looking for. It is believed that swarm pokemon are the best to chain since the chains usually last longer. Some pokemon also only appear when Poke' Radar is used.

What Pokemon only appear through the Poke' Radar?
Here is an alphabetical list of all pokemon that can be found exclusively through Poke' Radar:

How do I start to chain?

These 2 video's will help you greatly when starting to chain.

Are there items/abilities that will help when chaining?

Items:
Max/Super Repels: These itwms are near necassary to keep a chain going. Super repel gets more steps for your buck in the long run.
Ultra Balls: This is to catch any shiny you may see, or if you are chaining a pokemon just for your pokedex.
Leppa Berries: This is so you can regain your PP so that your pokemon do not run out of moves. Extrasensory and Wing Attack are great moves for chaining. Both moves have PP's in the 30's and have at least 60 base power Smile
Abilities:
Magnet Pull: This will increase the chance of finding a steel type pokemon. Note that if there is a 0% chance of finding any steel type in the area, your chances will not increase.
Charm: I have heard that it raises the chances of the opposite gender coming up, and I heard that it raises the chances of Normal Types come up. If any of you know for sure, make sure to tell me.
Swarm: This will increase the chance of finding a bug type pokemon. Note that if there is a 0% chance of finding any bug type pokemon in the area, your chances will not increase.
Static: This will increase the chance of finding an electric type pokemon. Note that if there is a 0% chance of finding any electric type pokemon in the area, your chances will not increase.
Illuminate: This will increase the chance of finding wild Pokemon. If you have Super/Max Repel on, Repel will beat out Illuminate
Stench/Intimidate: This will decrease the chance of finding wild pokemon. Good for when you run out of Super/Max Repels
Synchronize: This will give you a 52% chance of finding a pokemon with the same nature as the pokemon with synchronize in the front of your party.
Pick Up: Good for picking up Items to sell and Repels to use when chaining. Maybe a Rare Candy or two to level up your pokes.

Other Helpful Tips and Advice:

Sleep Mode: You can put your DS on sleep mode and on the charger if you need to take a break or if your DS is in the red.

Get ALOT of money: Since the cost of Ultra Balls and Super/Max repels can add up, you will need quite a bit of money. There is always the pokemon league to make money. Socialites and Gentleman give good money as well.

Put Pokeradar on Y select: If you register your Poke' Radar, it will be alot easier in the long run. Make sure your bike is NOT registered as this will end your chain.

EXTRA: These are swarm pokemon. These pokemon will not be in any particular order...
Route 201: Doduo
Route 202: Zigzagoon
Route 203: Cubone
Route 206: Nosepass
Route 207: Phanpy
Route 208: Dunsparce
Route 209: Snubbull
Route 213: Absol
Route 214: Spoink
Route 215: Drowzee
Route 216: Delibird
Route 217: Swinub
Route 218: Voltorb
Route 221: Farfetch'd
Route 222: Skitty
Route 224: Natu
Route 225: Makuhita
Route 226: Krabby
Route 227: Spinda
Route 228: Beldum
Route 229: Pidgey
Route 230: Corsola
Valley Windworks: Electrike
Eterna Forest: Slakoth
Fuego Ironworks: Magnemite
Lake Verity: Surskit
Lake Valor: Lickitung
Lake Acuity: Smoochum

The Chart

There is a chart that you will need to follow when chaining, and here it is

X444X444X
433333334
432222234
432111234
X321U123X
432111234
432222234
X3333333X

The U is where you are. You always want to go for the 4's. X's are likely to break your chain, as well as 1's and 2's. 3's are a little risky, but they have less of a chance of breaking your chain. Also remember that if a 4 is along a wall, in a corner, or makes up a corner, do not go in it.
I hope this guide has been informal and good luck getting that shiny whatever Smile
